Runescape is Jagex’s biggest and most long standing game. I joined them to not only bring trailers and updates to the already dedicated community, but also to grow the brand and highlight the continued releases of new quests and updates and to make trailers for Funorb the mini games website Jagex also had running at the time.
This role covered a variety of skills which allowed me a lot of creative freedom and a fantastic environment to grow and a massive learning curve in my career and move into games.
The first trailer here is the first trailer that RuneScape produced which bespoke animation rather than gameplay, as we wanted to move RuneScape forward with the times, but without doing the fans a disservice. I helped plan the context/shots, create the storyboard and animatic for this piece, working with the animation team, audio team and game director to deliver on this new direction.
My role for Runescape would involve meeting with the developers of a certain quest, having played it through myself, we would then discuss the exciting points, the spoilers and the main new elements, like weapons or rewards and content. I would then plan, script, capture the footage, sometimes co-ordinating the QA team in multi player capture sessions, to create the trailers or dev blogs for release of the new Quests or updates. Here are some examples of that work.
I have also included an overview to highlight some of the other work I produced at this games studio, mainly for their mini-games site FunOrb. Unfortunately I don’t have all the individual trailers but it gives you a good idea of the range and flavour of my other projects.
I was also brought in to work on their new MMO Stellar Dawn. However after many delays and after I had moved on I heard that the project was cancelled, such a shame it looked amazing.
