Conscript
A Team17 project.
Conscript, what a gem of a project this one was. Working with sole developer Jordan Mochi, of Catchweight Studios, this single player survival horror based in WWI gave me ample content to work with.
Being across the whole campaign gave me a chance to develop each trailer differently, giving the player something new to take away from seeing each piece.
The first was the gameplay trailer, in which I wanted to be able to show the gameplay but also bring the character and story to the forefront, highlighting that the ‘horror’ in this game was war itself. So having written a script for the opening sequence, we were able to have a wonderful French VO (with English subtitles) to deepen the sense of desperation and fear of the character himself.
The second trailer was a narrative piece. Jordan had been inspired by WWI poetry in the development of his game, in particular the poem ‘I Have a Rendezvous with Death’ - Alan Seeger, and so it seemed like a great fit to use this for the flow of the trailer. Finding the perfect piano music to accompany the powerful words and horrific and beautiful scenes from the game was a sorrowful delight.
And finally the launch trailer. We wanted to focus on what made the game so enjoyable, with it’s take on the classic survival horror, and I thought the bleakness and atmospheric feel of the game was a great element to highlight here, so with minimal music and mainly just in game sound effects we let the feel of this horror grab the audience and lure them in.
I was thrilled with the outcome of this campaign and thoroughly enjoyed working on this. A massive congratulations to Jordan for his efforts on this one, it won GOTY at the AGDAs 2024. Wow!
